Pattern, Memory and Territory

This series of vases, cast from old moulds recovered from the former Matet faience factory, is the outcome of research carried out during a contemporary ceramics residency in Martres-Tolosane, a region shaped by a rich history of faience and craftsmanship. The project questions the memory of the forms that inhabit this cultural landscape in order to reactivate them in a contemporary context.

By exploring the decorations of Martres faience and their processes of transmission, transformation and repetition, this research experimented with moving patterns into other media through digital tools and parametric design. These tools made it possible to generate new variations from the different forms of the ibis, the emblematic motif of Martres-Tolosane faience.
